SOPHIE POSTOLSKA — FORGOTTEN „RODIN’S POLISH WOMAN”This article is dedicated to Sophie Postolska—a Polish sculptress, who was one of the few Polish artists recognized as Auguste Rodin’s pupils. It is an attempt to fill the up rich glossary of Polish people in France. The article brings up the most important and hard to determine facts from life of the long forgotten artist, like her studies in Académie de Paris and Académie Julian, professional relation with Antoine Bourdelle, frequent travels and affiliation with the artistic circles of Cracow and Zakopane. The letters held in Musée Rodin and private archive of artist’s family are a valuable source of knowledge. The correspondence forms a journal illustrated with postcards from Poland, which allows to determine the extent of the private relations between master and apprentice. The only remaining evidence of the artistic activity of Postolska is a sculpture bearing her signature held in Musée Rodin in Paris

The Potential of Social Media Use in Sports Clubs – Fan Communication and Knowledge Management

    Get PDF
With the growing importance and popularity of social media which are becoming a part of our everyday life, it seems natural that they play an important role also in the activities of sport clubs. On the other hand, in the age of Information economy, knowledge management becomes a key aspect in operations of any organization. We build on the existing research to present how social media can be used in knowledge management of sports clubs. We start with presenting the typology of sports clubs and go on to present how sport clubs communicate on social media with different stakeholders. Furthermore, we discuss how social media can be used for knowledge management and prove the important role sport fans play in this process

ARTISTIC FRIENDSHIP AT THE MADOURA STUDIO: MICHEL SIMA AND PABLO PICASSO The article discusses numerous significant trends of 20th-century art and aims to complement the extensive sources concerning the activity of Poles in France. It focuses on one of the most important and now largely forgotten pottery workshop of the French Riviera, the Madoura Studio. The article discusses the artists connected with this site, their works and the influence of Pablo Picasso on the economic situation of Vallauris. It also explores the artistic friendship between Pablo Picasso and Polish artist Michel Sima (Michał Smajewski). It reveals obscure facts from Sima’s life and explores fragments of his abundant artistic legacy, which is stored in the private archives of his family. The author of the article makes an attempt to systematize and analyze Smajewski’s ceramic works and, most significantly, to demonstrate that he was not merely a man documenting Picasso’s creations but an important artist of the École de Paris in his own right

W opracowaniu poruszono również zagadnienia związane z innowacyjnością w tym sektorze

Transcriptome analysis reveals the role of the root hairs as environmental sensors to maintain plant functions under water-deficiency conditions

An important part of the root system is the root hairs, which play a role in mineral and water uptake. Here, we present an analysis of the transcriptomic response to water deficiency of the wild-Type (WT) barley cultivar 'Karat' and its root-hairless mutant rhl1.a. A comparison of the transcriptional changes induced by water stress resulted in the identification of genes whose expression was specifically affected in each genotype. At the onset of water stress, more genes were modulated by water shortage in the roots of the WT plants than in the roots of rhl1.a. The roots of the WT plants, but not of rhl1.a, specifically responded with the induction of genes that are related to the abscisic acid biosynthesis, stomatal closure, and cell wall biogenesis, thus indicating the specific activation of processes that are related to water-stress signalling and protection. On the other hand, the processes involved in the further response to abiotic stimuli, including hydrogen peroxide, heat, and high light intensity, were specifically up-regulated in the leaves of rhl1.a. An extended period of severe stress caused more drastic transcriptome changes in the roots and leaves of the rhl1.a mutant than in those of the WT. These results are in agreement with the much stronger damage to photosystem II in the rhl1.a mutant than in its parent cultivar after 10 d of water stress. Taking into account the putative stress sensing and signalling features of the root hair transcriptome, we discuss the role of root hairs as sensors of environmental conditions

Insights into the Histone Acetylation-Mediated Regulation of the Transcription Factor Genes That Control the Embryogenic Transition in the Somatic Cells of Arabidopsis

Somatic embryogenesis (SE), which is a process that involves the in vitro-induced embryogenic reprogramming of plant somatic cells, requires dynamic changes in the cell transcriptome. These changes are fine-tuned by many genetic and epigenetic factors, including posttranslational histone modifications such as histone acetylation. Antagonistically acting enzymes, histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and deacetylases (HDACs), which control histone acetylation in many developmental processes, are believed to control SE. However, the function of specific HAT/HDACs and the genes that are subjected to histone acetylation-mediated regulation during SE have yet to be revealed. Here, we present the global and gene-specific changes in histone acetylation in Arabidopsis explants that are undergoing SE. In the TSA (trichostatin A)-induced SE, we demonstrate that H3 and H4 acetylation might control the expression of the critical transcription factor (TF) genes of a vital role in SE, including LEC1, LEC2 (LEAFY COTYLEDON 1; 2), FUS3 (FUSCA 3) and MYB118 (MYB DOMAIN PROTEIN 118). Within the HATs and HDACs, which mainly positively regulate SE, we identified HDA19 as negatively affecting SE by regulating LEC1, LEC2 and BBM. Finally, we provide some evidence on the role of HDA19 in the histone acetylation-mediated regulation of LEC2 during SE. Our results reveal an essential function of histone acetylation in the epigenetic mechanisms that control the TF genes that play critical roles in the embryogenic reprogramming of plant somatic cells. The results implicate the complexity of Hac-related gene regulation in embryogenic induction and point to differences in the regulatory mechanisms that are involved in auxin- and TSA-induced SE

Polskie publiczne uczelnie akademickie w mediach społecznościowych

Social media are nowadays commonly used by universities to communicate, collaborate, share knowledge and build relationships with candidates, currently enrolled students, alumnus and other stakeholders. However, previous researches focus mainly on the use of social media for marketing purposes of companies. Very little attention is paid to a specific group of organizations i. e. universities. The objective of the research presented in the article is the identification of the existing trends of using social media as a communication tool between the university and its main stakeholders – the students. The research covered the activity of public universities (in Poland) on Facebook – the most popular social media platform among Polish Internet users (and students).Media społecznościowe w coraz większym stopniu stają się kluczowym komponentem tego jak uniwersytety komunikują się, współpracują, dzielą bądź zarządzają wiedzą oraz budują relacje z kandydatami, obecnymi studentami czy też alumnami oraz innymi interesariuszami. Facebooku
